Dr Pratheepan Puvanakumar is a clinical and laboratory haematologist with a passion for the management of adult patients with classical (non-malignant) haematological disorders. This includes: thrombotic and bleeding disorders, immunohaematology (ITP, haemolytic anaemia), hereditary red cell diseases (including haemoglobinopathies and thalassaemia), iron deficiency and overload, obstetric haematology and bone marrow failure (including aplastic anaemia and PNH).

Pratheepan received his medical degree from the University of Melbourne and completed his Basic Physician Training at Eastern Health. He embarked on dual advanced training in Haematology at various institutions including the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Eastern Health. Pratheepan went on to complete a Classical Haematology fellowship at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and participated in clinical trials in ITP and aplastic anaemia. His research interests include exploration of anti-complement based therapies in classical haematology.

Pratheepan also has appointments at La Trobe Regional Health (Clinical Haematologist), Eastern Health (Laboratory Haematologist) and has admitting rights at Warringal Private and Knox Private Hospitals.

Pratheepan strives to deliver the best outcomes for his patients and is an enthusiastic advocate of patient education. Outside of the clinic, he enjoys spending time with family and friends and is a life-long cricket tragic.

Pratheepan is fluent in Tamil.
