Professor Andrew Grigg

MBBS FRACP FRCPA MD

haematologist

Professor Andrew Grigg is a clinical haematologist consulting at Eastern Haematology Oncology Group and at the Austin Hospital. After training in Melbourne and Vancouver he spent 18 years at Royal Melbourne Hospital where he was the Deputy Director of Clinical Haematology for 5 years. He then moved to the position of Director of Clinical Haematology at the Austin Hospital from 2010 to 2021 when he stepped down to a part-time hospital position to focus on his private practice and have a bit of spare time.

Professor Grigg is an experienced haematologist with a broad interest across the spectrum of benign (such as thrombosis) and malignant haematological disorders. With respect to the latter he has been involved as an investigator in multiple national and international studies in both autologous and allogeneic transplants, acute leukaemia, Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, chronic myeloid leukaemia and myeloproliferative diseases (MPD) such as essential thrombosis and polycythaemia. He has ongoing clinical research interests in a number of these areas, has published over 310 papers in peer-reviewed journals and is part of the specialised lymphoma and transplant services at the Austin hospital.

Whilst he has a special interest in these diseases, he enjoys looking after all patients with haematological problems.

Patients who require inpatient treatment or outpatient chemotherapy are generally treated at the Austin under his supervision and with the support of a multidisciplinary team, including senior nurse consultants who provide an invaluable service. The Austin Clinical Haematology

Department is based at the Olivia Newton John Cancer Centre and offers a comprehensive service to all such patients.

If a patient needs to be seen urgently, he can be contacted either at EHOG or emailed at andrew.grigg@austin.org.au
